World Ozone Day, observed every year on September 16, is also known as the ‘International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer’. The need to declare an action to preserve the ozone layer introduced as a result of the outset of its depletion. In viewof this, Gitarattan Institute of Advanced Studies and training organised a one-day online workshop on the occasion of World Ozone Day on 16th September 2022. The theme of the workshop was Montreal Protocol@35: “global cooperation protecting life on earth”.The entire programme was organised by Ms. Rekha Ghalot, Assistant. Professor, GIAST and Ms. Shikhi Rohilla , HOD of Biology of a renowned CBSE Affiliated school. The workshop aimed to create greater awareness among the teaching and student communities related to the theme .
The programme was started by Ms. Kaushika S , Green fellow, Green Delhi Fellowship Programme. She welcomed our eminent speakers of the day and gave a brief introduction about them and then about the workshop. Dr. Arun Srivastava, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Sciences Chitkara University.He stressed on the significance of ‘Montreal Protocol’ and recommendations of the Indian Cooling Action Plan (ICAP).
Sh. Anunay Gour, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Engineering, Delhi technology University, talked about the Awareness about Ozone depletion and non Ozone Depleting Substances.He discussed the ways that can be done to spread awareness about the ozone layer among students and youth of our nation.
Then the platform was opened for Open discussion .Students enthusiastically participated in the same . Students from Gitarattan Institute of Advanced Studies and training got to interact with the speakers of the day and that helped them to clear their doubts .The programme was followed up by Poster presentations prepared by Eco club students. Students presented beautiful and creative posters depicting the significance of Ozone layer and slogan on the posters were captivating and speakers really appreciated the efforts and thoughts which were presented by young learners .
Students got to learn a lot from this workshop .
The session was concluded by Ms. Kaushika S Green fellow, Green Delhi Fellowship Programme. She gave her valuable remarks on the programme and then presented vote of thanks to both speakers of the day .
